Practical thinking for business owners

Build to last. Structure to sell.

I’m Arthur Addinall, a Chartered Accountant and Certified Exit Planning Advisor in Perth, Western Australia. I’m interested in what makes a business valuable — to its owner today, and to whoever owns it next.

Join me as we explore the great game of business — what works, what doesn’t, and what we can learn along the way.

Business value

Building a better business and preparing it for sale aren’t separate projects. The things that make a business easier to run — capable people, reliable systems, steady profits and less dependence on the owner — are the same things that make it worth more to the next owner. I think about that work in three stages.

Discover

Understand what the business is worth today, what it could be worth, and what you need it to provide.

Prepare

Protect and build value in the business, prepare the people who may lead or own it next, and get your own affairs in order.

Decide

Keep, grow or transition — a choice made deliberately, and revisited as circumstances change.

Discover, Prepare and Decide are the three stages of the Exit Planning Institute’s Value Acceleration Methodology™.
